TITANS OPEN TRYOUTS A SUCCESS

Approximately 35 former college and Canadian club players participated in the Orlando Titans Open Tryout, Nov. 7-8 at Barber Park in Orlando.

Orlando Titans assistant coaches led the prospective players through a four-hour session on Saturday, that included extensive drills and scrimmage situations. The original plan was to make a cut after Saturday’s tryout and bring a group of finalists back following day, but the overall quality of play led to all participants being invited back to Sunday’s workout.

“We will probably offer contracts to at least three of the tryout participants,” Titans Assistant Coach John Munroe said. “Depending on roster numbers, I would actually feel pretty good about bringing six or seven of these guys to training camp.”

Munroe went on to note that the overall play during the tryout camp was well above average. “It was definitely quality over quantity,” Monroe added. “We were pleased with the group’s overall experience. I was particularly impressed with some of the local talent currently living in this area,” Munroe. “We certainly have some guys in this camp that will have a legitimate chance to make our final roster.”

The next step will be for the coaches to sit down with Head Coach Ed Comeau and identify which of the participants they want to offer contracts to. Comeau was unable to attend the tryout as his University of McMaster men’s lacrosse team was participating in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association’s National Championships this week. His team reached the finals, where they lost a heartbreaking 12-11 decision to top-seeded and 17-time champion Brock University.

The Titan open up their 2010 preseason training camp on the weekend of Nov. 21-22.
